Bison Sloppy Joe’s
With Memorial Day coming up it’s time for outdoor parties! Here’s a twist on an old classic~ Bison Sloppy Joe’s! Ground bison is readily available at Costco & Sprouts and has a fantastic flavor. Making your own sauce is super easy and delicious. You’ll never use a can again!
Ingredients
- 1lb of ground bison
- 1 small chopped onion
- 3tbs of minced garlic
- 2tbs of banana pepper juice (this is not a requirement but adds a ton of flavor)
- 8oz of tomato sauce (I use & recommend @raoshomemade)
- 2tbs of Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2tbs of yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup of ketchup
- 1tsp of garlic powder
- 2tbs of sugar (white or brown is fine)
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions:
- Heat a large skillet to medium high heat and add some EVOO to coat pan.
- Add minced garlic and onion and cook about 3 min until onion fins to get translucent.
- Add ground bison and pepper juice (if using).
- Combine and cook until meat is browned stirring and breaking it up.
- Meanwhile in a sauce pan add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, ketchup, garlic powder, and sugar.
- Mix well together and simmer over low heat.
- Once bison meat is cooked through lower temp to simmer and don’t drain! That fat flavor adds to the dish.
- Add sauce and mix together well. Let sloppy joes simmer for about 10 minutes for all those delicious flavors to marry together.
- Serve on brioche buns and have a side salad, fruit, French fries, whatever your family loves as a side. Viola! Delicious classic made from scratch your whole family will love!
